15.0 Special Abilities of Certain Monsters

General Rule

Some monsters have special abilities used in combat against the party.

Detailed Rules

[15.1] Kronks smell so terrible it can make you sick. If the party runs into Kronks and engages them in combat, every party member must attempt to resist a spell. A character who fails this attempt falls ill, and their agility is reduced by 2 points for the duration of that combat. The character recovers once combat with the Kronks is over.

[15.2] A Chimera, in addition to attacking normally, may also breathe fire. The attacked character must attempt to resist a spell, and if the attempt fails, suffers, on top of the wounds from the Chimera's normal attack, one additional wound from the fire.

[15.3] A Medusa may turn an attacked character to stone. Roll 1K6 at every encounter with a Medusa. If a 6 is rolled, the character attacked by the Medusa turns to stone. The tile representing that character should be removed from the party's order.

If any party member knows the "Revive from Stone" spell, they may, immediately after combat ends, restore the petrified character to life. If no one knows this spell, that character is considered dead.

[15.4] A Troll has the ability to regenerate. At the end of every third "monster attack" phase, the Troll's wound count is reduced by one.

[15.5] A Vampire can cast the "Charm" spell "for free", but only during the first two rounds of combat. If a character attacked by this spell fails to resist it, they fall under the Vampire's power and are placed in the monster group's front rank. This effect can only be broken by the Vampire's death, or by the "Release" spell. A character under this Charm effect cannot cast spells, but must attack the party some other way.

[15.6] Every wound inflicted on a Hydra increases its agility by one point. So over the course of combat, the Hydra's combat abilities grow directly in proportion to the number of wounds it has taken. A Hydra is killed the normal way: once the number of wounds inflicted on it equals its strength stat.

[15.7] Warlocks (as well as The Nameless One) know one spell: "Lightning Bolt". They use it during every "monster attack" phase. A Warlock may not use this spell if its cost would kill them.
