Rulebook · Chapter 1 of 17
1.0 A Few Introductory Words
"Death Maze" is a new-generation game, quite unlike anything else known on the Polish market. It demands a great deal of intellectual engagement and sustained concentration from its players throughout play, and in return delivers unforgettable excitement. It hides many surprises that keep it from ever growing dull; quite the opposite, it becomes more and more engaging as the players gain experience. Exploring the maze, hunting for valuables and magic items, fighting monsters, and casting and resisting spells can all be approached in different ways, and the outcome depends on the approach taken. But "Death Maze" is an unusual game above all because the players (from 1 to 6 people) do not play against each other. Quite the opposite: to achieve the goal, i.e. to find and destroy the Black Gate, they must support and rescue one another in difficult moments. The game is played against the situation the players, or rather the characters they control, find themselves in: against dangers, monsters, traps, magic. Only close cooperation among all the players can secure victory. A player focused solely on individual success will not only fail to reach the goal, but may cause the death of the character they control.
As you have no doubt noticed, this rulebook is long. So allow us one piece of practical advice: please do not try to master every rule in it before starting to play. A far more effective way to learn is to read the rulebook once or twice to get a general sense of the game, its governing laws, and its flow, and then to start playing, consulting the relevant rulebook section whenever something is unclear.
