How it plays
The final fight: kill the Nameless One and the Black Gate loses its power while every Demon vanishes. He can't be negotiated with or bribed, and Truce doesn't work on him. He casts Lightning Bolt in every monster phase for up to six wounds unless the target resists, so Magic Shield on the front rank pays for itself. He stands behind the Demons, so expect to cut through them first.
- It resists a spell on a 1K6 roll of 1–4, so about 67% of your spells fail against it.
- Its attacks wound 100% of the time and average 1.3 wounds per attack at maze level 1.
- It cannot be negotiated with or bribed: the only way past is a fight.
- It never lairs or wanders: it only guards the Black Gate (rule 16.0).
Figures are for maze level 1 and come straight from the rulebook tables. Deeper levels add strength, agility and reluctance to negotiate (table 6.7).
