How it plays
Lightning Bolt deals 2, 4 or 6 wounds (4 on average) to a front-rank monster for a cost of 2, if it fails to resist. Against resistance 3 that nets exactly nothing on average, so save it for low-resistance targets or for finishing a monster with few wounds left. Warlocks and the Nameless One cast it themselves every round.
- Costs 2 wounds of the caster's own strength, and the spell can't be cast if that would kill the caster.
- Combat only, and only from the second rank (rule 10.4).
- The target resists it on a 1K6 roll at or under its resistance, which negates the spell (rule 11.0).
- Monsters cast it too: The Nameless One, Warlocks.
- Lowest-resistance monsters (resistance 1): Harpies, Skeletons, Kronks, Orcs, Wargs, Werewolves, Evil Spirits.
- Highest-resistance monsters (resistance 4): The Nameless One, Demons, Vampires.
| Resistance | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lands | 83% | 67% | 50% | 33% |
| Average wounds dealt | 3.3 | 2.7 | 2.0 | 1.3 |
| Minus the cost to you | 1.3 | 0.7 | 0.0 | -0.7 |
