How it plays

Her gaze can turn a character to stone: roll once at the start of the fight, and on a 6 the first character she attacks, hit or miss, leaves the party. Only Revive from Stone brings them back, immediately after the fight, and without that spell they count as dead. She hits only half the time (agility 2) and has just 2K6 strength, so kill her fast, and keep your most valuable character out of the front rank if you can. Resistance 2 means two spells in three work.

  • It resists a spell on a 1K6 roll of 1–2, so about 33% of your spells fail against it.
  • Its attacks wound 50% of the time and average 0.5 wounds per attack at maze level 1.
  • Reluctance to negotiate 5: you can try negotiation, then a bribe, before you fight.
  • It lairs in 2 of the 36 resident-monster outcomes and wanders in 1 of the 18 wandering outcomes.
  • Group size on the encounter tables: 1.

Figures are for maze level 1 and come straight from the rulebook tables. Deeper levels add strength, agility and reluctance to negotiate (table 6.7).
